Emily and Seth Howell

Volunteers Seth and Emily Powell with wish kid Eh Doe Emily Howell
Seth Howell,
 Beazer Homebuilding
How long have you been affiliated with Make-A-Wish and in what capacity?
S&E: We have volunteered for a year and a half.
What is your favorite experience with Make-A-Wish?
Emily: We had the opportunity to help one of my former refugee families (from teaching) become a wish family. They were from Myanmar and their 5th grade son had a brain tumor. We had the opportunity to go on a shopping spree to the Cool Springs mall. Most of his family had never been to a mall, and they were all extremely grateful.
In what way have you seen the impact a wish can have on a child?
The hope it gives a child is incomparable. We love seeing the joy a wish brings the child as they anticipate it and the gift it is to them and their family to have that time together.
What would you say to someone who is thinking about being a volunteer?
We feel passionately about volunteering with Make-A-Wish. No child does anything to cause cancer and as parents we realize it could happen to anyone. We’re thankful to be able to volunteer and be a part of the joy and hope that comes from the wishes.
If you could have one wish, what would it be?
E: A Disney Cruise
S: A Mediterranean Cruise
