Nashville’s Sydney Phoebus is a Wish Ambassador for
Make-A-Wish® Season of Wishes Campaign
Sydney’s Story is Presented by Mercedes-Benz of Nashville
For Release – Tuesday, November 27, 2012 – Sydney Phoebus has been selected as a Wish Ambassador for this year’s Season of Wishes campaign. Throughout November and December, a Wish Ambassador’s story will be featured in area media during the campaign. Make-A-Wish® Middle Tennessee is presenting these stories in order to both encourage families to contact their office if they have a child with a life-threatening medical condition, and to inspire Middle Tennesseans to give of their time, talents, or treasures to support its mission to grant a wish to every eligible child.
Wish: To go on a Disney Cruise
Battling Chronic Congenital Hemolytic Anemia
Sydney’s Season of Wishes® story is presented by Mercedes-Benz of Nashville
Sydney is a bright and energetic little girl, full of life and personality, and you wouldn't know by looking at her that there is anything wrong. However, this 8-year-old was born with a rare blood disorder, so rare in fact that it is still undiagnosed. However, Sydney’s rare anemia demands a blood transfusion every 3-4 weeks in order to keep her healthy and feeling good. In her short life, Sydney has already received 125 blood transfusions. In September, Sydney’s wish to be a princess and go on a Disney cruise with her family was granted! For one week, she was a kid, a princess, a pirate, a detective, a superstar, a dancer, and an explorer – but not a patient. “This wish gave us our first, true family vacation - and that is priceless,” said Sydney’s mom, Lori.
About the Season of Wishes® Campaign
Season of Wishes is a national holiday-themed umbrella campaign designed to activate corporations and consumers to support Make-A-Wish® during the most prolific spending period of the year. The campaign focuses on granting wishes for children across the United States during the holiday season. Make-A-Wish® Middle Tennessee is celebrating Season of Wishes® by telling wish stories and encouraging individuals to support businesses and events that are raising funds to help grant more wishes. The average cost of a wish is $7,000, but any amount can help grant a wish and provide hope, strength, and joy to a child with a life-threatening illness. Anyone can join Make-A-Wish® in celebrating the spirit of holiday giving. You can discover the many ways to share the power of a wish® with family and friends during the Season of Wishes® at www.middletennnessee.wish.org or call 615-221-2200 x112 or send your donation Make-A-Wish® Middle Tennessee, 8119 Isabella Lane, Suite 105A Brentwood, TN 37027.

About Granting Wishes
There are four steps to granting a wish. Each step builds on the next to help create the amazing experiences that delight wish kids and their families. A wish experience is frequently a source of inspiration for children undergoing difficult medical treatments and a positive force that helps them overcome their obstacles.
Step 1: Referral
We rely on medical professionals, parents and children themselves for referrals. Children older than 2 ½ years old and younger than 18 at the time of referral who have not received a wish from another wish-granting organization may be eligible for a wish.
Step 2: Medical eligibility
A child’s medical eligibility is determined with the help of the treating physician. To receive a wish, the child must be diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition – i.e., a progressive, degenerative or malignant condition that has placed the child’s life in jeopardy.
Step 3: Finding the true wish
We send one of our enthusiastic wish teams to learn the child’s one true wish. These passionate volunteers connect with wish children and help explore their imaginations for the experience that will delight and inspire them.
Step 4: Creating joy
Wish managers and wish granting volunteers work together to ensure that each child receives an unforgettable experience driven by the child's creativity. Each wish is as special and unique as the wish child who dreams it. It’s an incredible experience that enriches not just the lives of the children and their families, but often an entire community.
