Kevin Carter, Jay DeMarcus Unite Unlikely Grouping of Celebrities for Annual Charity Dinner
11th Annual Kevin Carter’s “Waiting for Wishes”
Star-Studded Lineup to appear at Celebrity Waiter’s Dinner in 2012
(NASHVILLE, Tenn.)---May 5, 2012 – Former Tennessee Titans player and 14 year NFL veteran Kevin Carter is scheduled to host one of Nashville’s premiere celebrity events, his 11th Annual Kevin Carter’s “Waiting for Wishes” Celebrity Waiter’s Dinner to benefit The Kevin Carter Foundation and Make-A-Wish® Middle Tennessee at The Palm Restaurant on Tuesday, May 8. The event is co-hosted by Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts and is expected to be another sell-out, with just a few seats left for purchase. The celebrity dinner is an exclusive, VIP evening where Carter, NFL teammates, alumni and other professional athletes along with various celebrities take over The Palm as servers. The event, which is sponsored by HCA/TriStar, Grand Avenue, The Downtown Hilton and Nashville Lifestyles Magazine, continues to be one of the most unique celebrity events in the country and is considered one of the “must attend” events for patrons and participants alike. Carter and DeMarcus promise this year’s event will be the highlight of the past decade and encourage patrons to buy their tickets now.
Carter and DeMarcus will lead the star-studded lineup, which includes a cast of NFL players and veterans such as Titans Marc Mariani, Rob Bironas, Steve Hutchinson, Michael Roos, Will Witherspoon, former Titans Derrick Mason, Blaine Bishop, Al Smith and Keith Bulluck, along with George Wilson (Bills), Chester Pitts (former Texan), Tony Richardson (former Jet), Max Starks (Steelers), TV personalities Tim Couch, Hannah Storm, Randy Cross, Storme Warren. UFC fighter Chuck Lidell and Diamond Dallas Page of WWE fame will join Jeff Nelson, former NY Yankee in addition to artists Amy Grant, Rodney Adkins, Colt Ford, Kix Brooks, John Rich, Jamie Johnson, Jana Kramer, Hollywood actor, writer and director Johnathan Schaech and Billy Zabka from the Karate Kid and various other celebrities from the entertainment industry for this special evening. Other celebrities to be added/subject to change.
“I am so very grateful to be able to continue this event so many years after my tenure with the Titans,” said Carter. “It was eleven years ago when I had hoped to have a dinner that could raise some money for children with life threatening illnesses and the success that this event has grown into, can only be attributed to this incredible community, their spirit of giving, and their commitment to changing the circumstances of those in need. I am also very blessed to have a wonderful committee of volunteers who never get enough credit for the amazing work they do each year. I couldn’t do it without their continued support in handling all the details of the event. I am also thankful for my philanthropic advisor and friend, Tresa Halbrooks, who took me under her wing in 2001 when I arrived in Tennessee and helped make my dreams a reality. My wife Shima and I feel blessed to be part of such an amazing community that continues to support us and this worthwhile effort.”
The celebrities will serve guests, sign autographs and accept donations to indulge the lively crowd, like when Lonestar entertained the patrons as well as a special reading from “Gone with the Wind” by Kevin Carter & Keith Bulluck, all in the name of charity. The highlight of one year’s dinner was when NFL great Jim McMahon showed up in a Hawaiian shirt and flip flops to greet the crowd.
The evening will begin with a VIP cocktail reception at 5:45 p.m., followed by The Palm's famous "Surf & Turf" dinner and a brief program hosted by Emmy Award-winner John Dwyer of WKRN-TV at 7 p.m. A premiere silent and live auction will feature exotic trips, autographed celebrity memorabilia and once in a lifetime experiences.
Kevin and Shima Carter created The Kevin Carter Foundation to enrich the lives of children focusing on youth and character development. Carter often quotes his father’s saying, "To whom much is given, much is expected" and admits he tries to live by that today. The Kevin Carter Foundation will make a donation to Make-A-Wish® Middle Tennessee, the primary beneficiary of "Waiting for Wishes" with proceeds from the event. Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.
