Jason Meets The Annoying Orange

“ The cool part about this wish is that it will blossom, and it will become something that he can do going forward. ”

- Jason's parents

Dane and Jason selfie   For an eight-year-old boy, summertime is the most fun time of the year, when the sun shines and friends run about.  For Jason, summertime means swimming, taking trips with his family, having fun with friends, wrestling and playing video games. In 2015, Jason began complaining of pain his hip. After consulting with doctors and specialists, he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma near his hip. Suddenly, he was robbed of his ability to run, play with his friends and just be a normal kid.

He really missed being able to participate in sports and outdoor fun, but he has great friends. Jason said they would welcome him with a big, “JASON!!” and lots of hugs. They made him feel like a movie star. Luckily he was still able to play video games with his friends and watch YouTube videos. The latter would provide some helpful inspiration for a very special experience.

Jason’s mom, Kristine, referred Jason to Make-A-Wish Middle Tennessee because she knew the power a wish could have in making Jason feel better. It would give him something to plan and anticipate.   When he was deciding what his one true wish would be, Jason and his wish-granting volunteers, Meghan and Casey, spent a lot of time thinking of what he would really love the most. What they came up with is amazing. Jason’s wish was to have a YouTube channel like the Annoying Orange, and that’s where the fun began.

In June 2016, Jason, his parents and his sister flew to California where they met the star of Annoying Orange, Dane Boe and the entire crew of the Annoying Orange series. What could be cooler than that? They created a character just for Jason! His name is Baby Carrot, and he will be featured in an upcoming episode of Annoying Orange—his voiceover, video of his eyes and mouth and all. As if that wasn’t enough fun for the day, Dane and the crew took the day to hang out with Jason and played Super Smash Brothers. and Mario Kart and ate dinner and played games at Dave and Buster’s afterward.

Jason’s parents, Kevin and Kristine, felt that this wish was absolutely perfect for him—that there couldn’t have been a more amazing experience for Jason and his family to go somewhere as a family and forget the hardships. Jason told us that his wish was “great and perfect and flawless.”
 Goodbyes
When the family returned home, they began to collect equipment for Jason to set up his own YouTube channel, courtesy of Dane and the Annoying Orange crew. “Make-A-Wish does a great job of gearing the wish towards your child’s wants. The cool part about this is that it will blossom, and it will become something that he can do going forward. He’ll be limited in other things, but he can do this. He can edit videos and do voiceovers, and it is something he can do with his sister,” Kevin and Kristine explain.  Stay on the lookout for Super J Productions in the near future… you just might see a familiar face!
