Seven-year-old Moses loves being outside. His face lights up on beautiful, sunny days and in the company of nature.
Due to physical limitations from the two rare, neurological disorders from which he suffers, it can be difficult for Moses to participate in outdoor activities with his family. In fact, many of those outdoor activities can be challenging, inaccessible and even dangerous for him.
Moses wished for a cargo bike so he could enjoy the outdoors with his family. His mom, Natae, says that this wish resolved many of the issues she had been having in finding a safe way for Moses to ride a bike with her. In the past, he had been riding behind her in a bike trailer, but this posed problems because she wasn’t able to see him. This arrangement was potentially dangerous, especially if Moses began seizing during a bike ride.
The mother of three searched endlessly for ways to include Moses in their family’s activities. “I just thought, there has to be a way,” she said.
When Natae found the bike, she knew what Moses’ wish would be. The bike, with a wagon-like compartment in front of the handles, pedals and seat, enables Natae or her husband to ride with Moses in view, eliminating their previous difficulties and offering a solution to their problem.
“Even though he is non-verbal, I can just tell how much he loves being outside with us,” Natae said. With this wish, Moses would be able to enjoy the outdoors safely, as well as spend time with his family.
Since receiving the bike, Moses has been able to join his siblings on beautiful days and experience biking without limitations. His wish has brought the family together, and their trips to the park and around the neighborhood are a way for Moses to join his older sister and younger brother in a pastime so many take for granted.
“It’s been such a blessing to us,” said Natae.
