Esperanza gets her chance on the catwalk

Esperanza on the red carpet

“ I loved every minute and wouldn’t change a thing. Being a model was a dream come true ”

- Esperanza

Esperanza is a girly 14-year-old from Middle Tennessee who suffers from a brain tumor. She loves to get pampered and to be the center of attention. When Esperanza met with her wish granters, she knew that her wish was to be a model!

Due to her medical condition, Esperanza had developed double vision and part of her face had become paralyzed. Her wish stemmed from her desire to feel beautiful and special again. Her mother, Elsa, thought this would be the perfect wish to help boost Esperanza’s self-esteem.

Esperanza got to kick start her wish with some spa time where her and mom got manicures and pedicures. Afterwards she went to the mall to go shopping—because all models have large wardrobes! With the help of her own personal shopper, Esperanza purchased outfits that she would later get to wear in a photo shoot. That night she checked in at Celebrity Services at the Gaylord Opryland Resort where Esperanza was able to get some beauty sleep before her fun filled day being a model!

The next morning a limo drove her in style to get her hair and makeup done. She was then off to lunch downtown before heading to model in her own photo-shoot. She got to take photos in the outfits she purchased the day before along with the glamourous customized dress Project Runway star, Johnathan Kayne, had made just for her! When her photo-shoot was over Esperanza headed to the Omni hotel to get ready for her big night. There she stayed in the Presidential Penthouse and the whole hotel was up lit in purple—her favorite color! When it was time for dinner she was escorted by private security before walking the red carpet into the restaurant and stopping for photos for paparazzi along the way. When her dinner concluded (specially prepared by the chef with all her favorite foods!), Esperanza and mom were whisked away to Johnathan Kayne’s runway show which was featured during Nashville Fashion Week. As Johnathan’s personal guests, they were seated front row as VIP.

EsperanzaThe highlight of the wish, however, was when Esperanza got to walk down the runway. It was an emotional moment for all in attendance. Esperanza’s balance is very unstable and she has difficulty walking at times. But she was not about to let this hold her back. Esperanza was determined to make it down the catwalk. “You should have seen her at the show, she was strutting her stuff, so confident in herself, so proud of her,” Mom commented after the fashion show. Esperanza’s experience truly shows how powerful a wish can be and the significant impact it had on her life. It gave her the necessary boost in confidence and self-esteem that she had been lacking all during treatment.
