If you aren't familiar with Alby's story, you should definitely check out his brave battle with leukemia. In 2015, Alby wished to leave his cancer treatment behind for a week and spend a week with his family on an island. He wanted to be a pirate treasure hunter.
Since his wish, Alby has been incredibly courageous during some pretty brutal treatment. We recently got a great update from Alby's mom, Barbara.
"Alby is doing well. He had his last chemo treatment in July and, while his blood counts are still very low and he still must go to the hospital monthly, he wants to try as many activities as time will allow . He still reminisces about his pirate adventure and has encouraged other critically-ill children to take their Make-A-Wish trip even if they don't feel up to it. His encouragement worked on one friend so far!
"His adventure not only gave our family memories we will cherish forever, but it also renewed his confidence and sense of fun and adventure which seemed to have disappeared with all of his intense cancer treatments. He still loves pirates! We are building a new treehouse in the shape of a pirate ship, and the flag hanging on the side is from his adventure with Make-A-Wish.
