How long have you been involved with Make-A-Wish Middle Tennessee?
I have been a supporter for about 5 years through helping run KFWK programs at my kids’ schools and attending SFW. I have been lucky enough to work at Make-A-Wish since March 2017.
What is your job? What do you do at Make-A-Wish?
I am the Executive Assistant which means I do a little bit of everything. My main job is to support the CEO, but I also help with some event planning, donor management and accounts payable.
What is your favorite wish story or experience?
There are so many that it is hard to choose. If I had to pick one, I would pick my experience with Cody’s Wish Reveal at Crockett Elementary School. CES held a Fun Run and raised over $13,000 through the Kids for Wish Kids program. Cody wished to go to Legoland in California, he loved Star Wars and his favorite color was green. For Cody’s reveal, the school planned an all-school assembly. Cody arrived in a limo and was given some Star Wars themed Legos, Star Wars cupcakes and then went into the gym where 700 kids were all dressed in GREEN and chanting his name. After a quick visit from Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker, the kids all told Cody that he was going to Legoland. Watching the joy on his face was amazing. To see all of those kids so excited to give Cody that gift after their hard work raising money from the Fun Run and the energy in that gym is something that I will never forget. Granting wishes is always an honor, but to watch the kids do this for a peer was beyond words!!
If you could have one wish, what would it be?
My wish would definitely be to travel somewhere with my family. I think I would probably pick some place exotic like Fiji or the Azore Islands. My family loves to travel to new places and every time that we do travel, I am reminded what a gift travel is. You can leave all your cares behind and just focus on being present with the people that are with you.
